Help for Families

I am a social worker and social workers specialize in families. A family is an organic unit just like other phenomena found in nature, like a cell or a forest. In fact, even when I see just one person from a family, I always regard the entire family to be the patient.

Brilliant family therapy theorist, Murray Bowen  declared that though one person in a family system may be the most vulnerable and be the symptom bearer (of say schizophrenia), it is the entire family system which suffers the disorder. And it is precisely by following this line of reasoning that one can declare that even if only one person in the system seeks therapy, what is done to the one is done to the whole. When one person in a family system calms down, s/he can calm down the entire system.
